Why interests-first matching changes the conversation

Every random chat platform since 2009 has worked the same way: you press a button, you get a stranger, and roughly half the time the conversation dies after "hi" and "asl". The randomness is the feature — but it is also the reason most sessions last under ninety seconds.

We kept the randomness and changed the input. When you start a chat you optionally pick interests from a short list: languages, music, travel, gaming, books, films, fitness, art, food, tech. Matching is then weighted toward people who selected the same things. You still meet someone unexpected — you just do not start from nothing.

The effect is measurable. Sessions where at least one interest overlaps run substantially longer than sessions with no overlap, which is why we made it the default rather than a premium feature.

Text first, camera when you are ready

Random chat has a reputation problem, and it is not unfair. Turning on a camera with a stranger is a genuinely exposed thing to do, and most platforms treat it as the only mode that matters.

Here, text chat is a complete experience on its own. You can talk for an hour without ever enabling a camera or a microphone. When you want more, voice and video are one tap away, inside the same conversation, with the same person. If you would rather not speak live at all, you can send a voice note instead — recorded, reviewed by you, sent when you choose.

What happens when you press start

The moment you begin, we place you in a queue of verified accounts only. Device fingerprinting and behavioural scoring run before an account is allowed into the pool, which means the person on the other side passed the same checks you did. Accounts showing scripted or automated patterns are removed at the network level, so the operator behind them cannot simply register again.

Median time from pressing start to being connected is 2.4 seconds, measured across a rolling seven-day window.

Ending a chat is as easy as starting one

There are three ways out and all of them are a single click. Skip moves you to someone new and remembers nothing. End chat closes the session cleanly. Report disconnects you immediately and files the transcript with the moderation queue — every report is read by a person, not just filtered.

If you skip someone by accident, or a chat drops because of a bad connection, you can send them a message request. It sits in their inbox until they next open the site. That single feature is the most requested thing we have ever built, and no other platform in this category ships it.
